It's been a long, long time since I saw you.
It must have been at least eleven years.
I wasn't sure how you'd react to seeing
the one who caused your heart so many tears.

We were so young and I was running wild.
Wasn't ready to give up my freedom just yet.
So I took my mama's car and headed north
and you stood in the street screamin' I'd regret.

The big city lights didn't shine like in my dreams.
The days were hard and the nights were way too long.
In my letters I told you how exciting it all was.
I couldn't bring myself to admit that I was wrong.

And many a time you begged me to come home,
promised you'd give me all I'd ever need.
I should have packed my stuff and ran to you,
but my heart still wanted a little room to breath.

Seasons changed and weeks turned into years.
The letters slowed til there were none at all.
Then I found myself alone and in my thirties
still hoping every night that maybe you would call.

So I've come home for good now.
To the town and the people I love.
And I see you come walking across the street.
The man I've yearned for and dreamed of.

As you come closer the world stops and I force a smile.
The sun glistens off the golden ring on your hand.
You hug me tight, pat me on the back,
and say how great it is to see an old friend.

Wonderful life excursion in print...I think we're all the same and pardon the forbidden cliche....sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees....well maybe just maybe you were never looking for the forest....a great write!

Oh, how many times I have come awake to find that it was just too late......
TA, this is a very touching piece, and like you read my life's story......
So very tender, so very true......

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Aww, this is sad... but I sure know how that feels. I think you did a great job writing this. I loved it!

Have you ever known the color grey when the nighttime finds you weak
I have, I've walked that road each time; that's where my angel sleeps
