We met in early summertime, a casual introduction.
I felt as though my world were new and I had no instruction.
Our dates were mostly summer strolls, our goal the soda fountain.
The luxury awaiting us, worth climbing any mountain.
We'd sit awhile and then you'd ask, "What is your pleasure, Dear?"
I without a bit of thought, "An ice cream soda, please Sir."
You'd order two of them and add, "Now make that chocolate, please."
We with the whole world at our feet, would sit in grandest ease.
The cool and frosty glasses came, we made them last and last.
The exquisiteness is with me now, though so long in the past.
The ecstasy of holding hands and sipping was sheer bliss.
And we still had the long walk home, concluding with a kiss.
This was only the first chaper of the life which was to come;
But I never have forgotten that pure harmonium.
Stopping in at Blackburn's, we were such a happy pair;
At that little soda fountain in our hometown on the square.

After reading this, I can close my eyes and travel back in time to long days, longer summers, and a more peaceful way of life.
Thank you so much, Joyce........this was a grand memory!!

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Thank you Catalina Moon and Sunnyone. This was slipping away fast without recognition. I'm glad you noticed it. This is truly about that first summer getting to know the sweet boy who was to come my husband and who I was going to lose to death far too early at the age of forty-one. It is a good memory for me. Joyce~
I felt you touching familiar and fond memories in this piece.

What tender smiles are etched in our hearts.
It brought a very special recall to lay across my memory.
Thank you.

How very heartwarming, and you know I smiled through the whole poem, (now that's something!), this was so lovely, and I thank you for yet another wonderful piece.
