When love casts her illusions, close your eyes,
Avoid her gaze, as like you would the sun,
Do not be lured by her sweet, whispered lies,
Or kiss the mouth that hides an adder's tongue.
She wove her web for me, a dream-spun lair,
Amidst miasmal vapours,manna fell,
In seraph's raiment came my masked despair,
With heaven's claws, she dragged me into hell.
Fear not love itself, but to be blind
To truth, as moths are drawn into the light,
For like a swan, her charms can fool the mind,
Her ebon feathers hidden under white.
All dreams of love are cast on marble cracked,
When we ignore the flaws, all dreams turn black.

'Humankind cannot bear too much reality' T.S.Eliot

superb imagery and unique vocabulary choices
as well as cadence kissed flow all make this dark beauty a poetic pleasure to read.
Nice to read your work again Tony.

oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhymes
my body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive

I heard a fine Welsh singer comment that poetry and music are part of the birthright of all Welshmen. It appears to be true. This is an excellent sonnet, sir.
