~*~ SOLITUDE ~*~

Dark shadows are cast on a heavy heart,
Saturated in so many years of bygones,
Depleted of all trust, joy and laughter.
Fear contours bars on a sad mind's cage.

Heart reflexes tighten in reminiscence,
Allowing no one to permeate a blackened soul,
For therein lives a small frightened child,
Cowering in yesteryear's darkest corners.

Locked away in safety, she hides.
In desolate silence, she hears screams.
She is but a pearl, in a sea of sorrow.
Waiting for someone to treasure her.

Decisions of change so arduous,
They take her mind's eye back to the fear.
Reflections of years of non-existence,
Still such a familiar and lonely place.

Fear holds tight the lock on the door.
If opened, will safety and peace be hers?
Would they see past what they see?
Or do you think they might see me?

Self persecution is all consuming,
To receptive souls who fear the knowing.
Mind’s reflection seldom casts a shadow.
And solitude can be a lonely place.

Sad and lovely...written with such conviction and honesty that I feel you have truely lived this description. The stanza I like the most is:

"Locked away in safety, she hides.
In desolate silence, she hears screams.
She is but a pearl, in a sea of sorrow.
Waiting for someone to treasure her."

I treasure you and your breathtaking poetry!

Mysteria--Yes, "solitude can be a lonely place." But, sometimes it feels safer then what's behind the door...You write of feelings I think I understand and you do it with much thought and care. Well written!

This is heart-string pulling. I have no memories of solitude as a child, but I am sure it can be very sad. (Thanks for the help you sent me. I am not too proficient with the mechanics of electronics. But will get some help.)Joyce

Sunshine: "very" reflective, thanks for reading.

bslicker: If this is all you know, it is like any other new and foreign thing, you must learn to be "un-alone".

Jellybean King: Forever my Knight in Shining Armor(*sigh*)...thanks for the uplifting words of encouragement.

Serenity: Here is a hug for you seeing that you gave one to me...we truly have to let life in!

Martie: Thank you - Unfortately, I know this topic well.

Joyce:You are welcome and thank you for taking the time out to read this poem.

Startin_fresh: thank you and yes I love that music too.

Your poem so well written that I can relate too. Yes, it is dark after a lot of trauma, until one learns to let go...but does one ever completely let go?
