We sit together on the patio
Talking quietly about life
As the sun begins to fade
Ending another peaceful day
Spent alone with you

I feel a sense of calm
Washing over me
When you take my hand
Covering it with your own
Gently caressing as we talk

I slowly close my eyes
Trying to imagine
What it would be like
To sit beside you
Here for an eternity

My mind cannot fathom
The feelings that arise
Like a flame leaping
To life from a single
Glowing ember

Your voice soothes me
When I am upset
Soft calming tones
Whisper in my ear
There’s no need to fear

You reassure me
When I am feeling weak
And I draw strength
From your words
When I need it most

I look into your eyes
Taken aback by the love
I see reflecting back at me
As if it were the first time
I saw myself in you

I am lost in thought
For a moment
Until I realize
You are speaking
To me right now

Unaware of what you said
I give you a puzzled look
As you begin to explain
The reasons you love me
More with each passing day

Then it hits me
Like cool water
On a hot day
You said “I love you”
As I was lost in your eyes

I listen as you tell me
How kind, caring,
Loving, funny,
Intelligent, loyal,
And beautiful I am

Then I smile at you
Giving you that look
You know the one
That drives you wild
Yes, that one!!

Looking deep into your eyes
I say “I love you too”
With all my heart
And all that I am
Now and forever

We’ll sit here
On the patio
Side by side
You and I
Until the end of time

Lone Wolf.. What a wonderful poem this was and how it made me feel so warm inside. You have a great way in making your reader smile and say, "Oh yes, that's it!!"
