~*~ MY INTERNET CREDO ~*~

I’ve been on the Internet a few years now
and experience has finally taught me a thing or two.
So, finally I made myself a list of strict rules
and someone asked me to share them with you.

~ * ~ RULE NUMBER ONE ~ * ~
~ Romance ~

If someone wants to play tootsies with you,
And starts messing around with your heart,
Ask yourself this one question –
Do you really want to finish,
Whatever it is that you will start?
If a cyber romance of fantasy
Is what you are looking for to play,
You’ve definitely in the right place;
On the Intenet you can get in the game,
Day or night, any hour, on any day!
Oh a fantasy love in fun is all right,
But keep it in perspective,
Be careful, and “don’t you fall!
Because usually at the end of that rainbow,
There is no real pot of gold,
And most times mo real love at all!
On the net, anyone can say they are anybody,
And call themselves whatever they please…
Your handsome or beautiful sexual attraction,
Could really be some low life sleaze!
Now if I sound a little cynical,
Well I think that I am entitled to my say,
See, I am no better than those I ridicule,
as I too, got into the game to play!

~ * ~ RULE NUMBER TWO ~ * ~
~ Email ~

In sending email over the interet,
Make sure that you are fully aware,
That your one email can circulate to many,
In the wide world of cyber space,
Heck, – there are not rules to privacy there!
And your email might even come back to you,
Like one of mine did eventually to me…
I had to laugh, as not a single word
Of my original email, anywhere on it, did I see!
So if you are intent in keeping some harmony
With people you can not even see,
Make sure your emails are generic enough,
Because heck, it may just be sent to me!

~ * ~ RULE NUMBER THREE ~ * ~
~ Trust ~

Now there is an emotion discussed so freely.
Seems to me the offer is really thrown around.
Tell me, how many people on the Internet are there,
You really and truly trust, that you have found?
Trust is a bond that takes time and patience,
And when building a cyber friendship true...
Never butt your nose into Rule Number One,
Or be guilty of Rule Number Two.
See I do agree, great friendships can happen
(and do), right here on the Internet…
But be careful, treat it more like “real life”,
And remember to always let them come to YOU,
If they want to see the person they met.
Just because a screen separates you from
A person you interact with every day,
Doesn’t give you license to publicly hurt or
humiliate them, in any possible way!
Don't violate their confidence,
Or spread any vicious humors,
It will only serve to hurt you in the end.
Your name will be mud, you’ll be black-balled,
So as to trust never, but never, let it bend!

~ * ~ RULE NUMBER FOUR ~ * ~
~ Neagative Comments on Sites ~

My Mother said, “If you can’t say anything nice,
don’t bother to say anything at all.”
Is there pleasure in attacking someone publicly?
It is only your own image that will fall.
Ignore it, or disagree to disagree in an email;
No one else needs to hop upon your venomous train.
Life is too short, just send out a message,
That as far as nasty comments,
No thank you ! - I wish to refrain.

~ * ~ RULE NUMBER FIVE ~ * ~
~ General Etiquette ~

Use the Net courteously, don’t abuse the privilege,
Search for knowledge, entertainment or a friend.
There is nothing you can’t find on this computer,
If it has a '.com” extension on the end!
The internet's a wonderful thing,
If the technology is never abused,
So here I sit with my new Internet Credo,
Beside me always are my Internet Rules!
I sit surfing, but now somehow so much smarter,
And I can’t help but be somewhat amused!

~*~A poet is someone who reads more than they write ~*~

Although you've shared this previously, it is a good reminder to all.

I have a credo too....
"It aint easy being a moth" ... LOL
thanks for sharing your lessons learned the hard way poetically.
take care

We wish ourselves beautiful,
we cry in the night.
Its not the love you fear ...
its the fall from the height.

I think I'll have this list enlarged and post it somewhere I can see it often, perhaps I should make more than one copy and plaster the walls with it. LOL

Very good credo sweetie, well said.

Be blessed!

Well let's put this to music and sing it and then for sure people will remember it. Time and time again, they keep going back for more! Some people sit at their computer and that is their source of entertainment, to hurt people

Julian: (he he sounds funny!) Yup posted it before but added one more after someone violated a trust!

PoetdeVine: I second that amen!

Martie - You are so welcome - warn your friends.

Janet Marie: I love your credo! Short and sweet! Now if only someone could teach me to say what I want without writing a book I would have it made!

Sunshine: Don't know about smart, just really cautious now, I trusted too much!

Ballader: Do I ever know what I am talking about! I was so gullible it was ridiculous, but I was a lucky one, I got home safe and sound, some don't! Pssst...while I got ya...I sure love your poetry.

Kate: Yup - make wallpaper. My other favorite saying came from Todd: "Never let people you do not know personally in real life influence the way you think or feel", and as emotions run high on a computer I have that sign right under my nose!.

Marge: Yup that's a rap!

to be with you...
I've tried to hide my passion,
but it's just no use...
piece by piece I lose it
when you walk into the room...

Mysteria,

Wonderful sage advice here. I hope we all heed the rules and remember to play by them. A world of hurt can be caused if we don't. You are very wise and I thank you for sharing this with us.

Catalinamoon: Rule #1 is the killer rule! It is so easy to fall in love with a fantasy...but when you actually meet them be prepared for some stark reality (works both ways guys so don't throw shoes!)

Snopants: It IS good advise, I had it told to me too, but did I listen NO!

Lone Wolf: Thank you for reinforcing the importance of these little tips, they can actually save lives, and have on one occasion. You have to be so careful.
