Because it is St. Patrick's Day!

Great castles rise, invade the skies,
Where green fields fall away.
Below the cliffs, the surging sea
Has drenched the rocks with spray.

Inside the hall, the banners flew,
For men, in days of yore,
Who fought to keep the strangers all
From claiming Ireland's shore.

Some say their spirits linger here
And every now and then,
The sounds of harp and stirring song
Come floating down the glen.

My roots are deep in Ireland.
Like earth to stately tree,
The pride of Irish heritage
Gives sustenance to me.

Dear Joyce: Thanks for commenting. I was talking to my daughter earlier and she told me Ireland had cancelled their St. Pat's parade in Dublin this year because of foot and mouth disease. I decided to post another Irish poem!

My roots are in Ireland as well, and I'm very proud of it!
