Windows of Desire

The cold snappy wind keeps a soul by the fire
Just watching through windows of longing desire
Envisioning spring through the ice on the pane
When crystals of flaky white melt into rain

A mantle of white gleaming bright in my eye
Is the mirror that etches a change drawing nigh
From the bright glazy icing on meadow and field
To the thawing that earth will reluctantly yield

The icicles chiming in cold gusty breeze
Echoing sharp stinging wintry freeze
Will melt in the sunlight in little cold tears
Enriching the soil with passing of years

The seedlings of April will push through the sod
Opening blooms that were sculptured by God
And colored in pastels of lavender blues
And the sizzling reds and the heathery hues

How the heart flutters with joy at the scene
Of white and pink dogwood surrounded by green
And cherry and apple trees ready to burst
Into pink and white cotton balls fully immersed

Each flower of springtime will quickly appear
Flaunting its velvety petals so dear
They’ll shine like a spectrum of colorful light
Just as ice on my window in prism’s delight

The snowflakes are falling in crystal white stars
Each pattern of white is so perfectly carved
My eye is observing the joy winters bring
Through the glaze on my window imagining spring

Liz a perfect description! I await it too, but through the drizzle of rain, and I'll have those drizzles of rain turning into flaky white crystals instead, sometime tonight.

Thank you for your beautiful words!

Wonderful answer to the challenge Elizabeth......love the phrasing and all the different scenes ......the feeling of the whole work is so fresh and beautiful.....but I've come to realize that's what I am going to read when you post.....simply marvelous work!!

"How the heart flutters with joy at the scene
Of white and pink dogwood surrounded by green
And cherry and apple trees ready to burst
Into pink and white cotton balls fully immersed"

So true!

"The snowflakes are falling in crystal white stars
Each pattern of white is so perfectly carved
My eye is observing the joy winters bring
Through the glaze on my window imagining spring "

Right now that's exactly what I'm doing! Great writing!!

What wonderful thought, accepting today with hope for tomorrow while appreciating the beauty of each. Really enjoyed this, as I do all of yours.
