I carefully adjust my mask before I face the day;
the one that I've been wearing ever since you went away.
Your coming brought a happiness like none I'd ever known.
Your going left an emtiness that chills me to the bone.
Your sisters and the others try so hard to take your place.
For their sake I must smile and show of sorrow not a trace.
My firstborn and my only son, of whom I was so proud,
I mourn the boy and the man, but nevermore aloud.

Such sadness and sorrow to be kept within. Powerful piece. Deepest sympathy to you and your family. God bless.

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats

My heart goes out to you... You have my sympathy in your loss and my admiration for being able to channel your tears into the powerful avenue of poetry... this is painfully beautiful. *S*

Dear Joyce: I'm sorry for what you are going through. The poem is so true! You have to wear a facade for the sake of others,
but the pain never goes away.

Joyce ~ this touched my heart deeply. I lost my dad in a tragic car accident eight years ago, and this reminds me so much of the thoughts that my grandmother and I both had following his depature. Wiping a tear, I thank you for sharing this very beautiful voice from your heart with us.

Happy weekend, and many smiles and blessings sent your way,
Martha Cowan
