***Once again I have the pleasure of writing with the incredibly talented Kit McCallum...we hope you enjoy the collaberation***

I'm calling absent muses … won't you please come out to play?
Seems all day long I search in vain for words that ran astray;
Do you not know, I want you home? Enough vacation please!
I miss your fluid thoughts and lines, you impish absentees.

Quite suddenly the doorbell rang, I rushed to it with hope,
And yet I found the mailman there, he handed me this note;
I recognized the writing, for it flowed with gentle ease,
A postcard from the Land of Muse, a subtle little tease.

It said, "We're on vacation and we're having quite a time!
We're out of inspiration for your silly little rhyme!
You work us hard, both day and night, to make your verses flow
So now we're on vacation! We just wanted you to know."

"Your little muse is not amused when he gets pushed too hard.
So we've returned to Museland. Do you like our witty card?
Your head is filled with accolades for work that WE have done.
Now you can do the work yourself while we're out having fun!".

I screamed in fright, I stomped my feet, in fear of pending doom,
"You can't desert me now!" I yelled, to no one in the room;
I paced the floor, I chewed my nails, I tore my hair from roots,
"Come back to me! You cannot leave my mind so destitute!"

A day went by, a week, then two … I barely slept a wink,
For all day long I'd stare at pages starkly void of ink;
Then suddenly, the doorbell rang, my heart jumped in my throat,
"Oh please!" I begged, "I want good news!", but this is what they wrote.

"We're having such a wondrous time...those Limericks are fun!
And haiku muses came here from the Land of Rising Sun.
The sonnet muses are quite stuffy but we get along
And you should hear the way the lyric muses write a song!"

"There is a little pantoum muse that really caught my eye.
She says the way I coin a phrase makes me her kind of guy!
But don't you worry, poet girl. Just dry those pretty eyes..
For I'll be coming home soon and I'll bring a nice surprise!"

I focused on the postcard at the words I longed to hear,
The flowing rhyme and meter that I held so very dear;
Repeatedly, I read the lines and promised there and then,
That never would I take for granted, my precocious friends.

I walked into my writing nook and scanned the disarray,
The crumpled papers strewn about from hours of dismay;
My mind had been a lonely place, bereft of fluid thought,
Anticipation filled my veins, and then..... I heard a knock!

There stood my muse - all suntanned with a big smile on his face.
He winked and then he handed me a large, brown leather case.
I looked within and laughed aloud, my face alive with glee
At all the treasures my dear muse had carried home to me!

There were kings and knights and maidens fair and rocket ships to Mars,
Lovers loving, lovers leaving, stairways to the stars,
Tales of war and gallant deeds and life in every way
Created in the Land of Muse where he had gone to play!

My muse and I are back together....let the people know
My ammunition belt is loaded - pen is set to go!
I'm filled with millions of ideas my muse brought to me
The spell of dryness has been broken....Look out, P.I.P!!!!!!

This is absolutely delightful... and though I'm glad you're back (with tales to tell *G*) I sure was enjoying those postcards.

Now be sure to be appreciative
And give credit where it's due
Then perhaps your muses won't
Vacation without you! *S*

Cool muses, terrific poets! *S*

I enjoyed this thoroughly....I got quite a chuckle out of it, then I became jealous because your muse was on vacation and would come back to my poor old worn out muse that wouldn't be able to keep up....then... I went mellow and thought what the heck, I'll learn from your muse................so I expect you to live up to these lines

Just delightful, you two!!!!!

My muse seems to hang around
every hour of the day
but sometimes I must squelch
so I can earn some pay.

Other times, I squelch it
cuz it just seems to me
that it's pleasing more to others
if I let my words just be.

For all too often I have found
That when I place them here
They falter down and down the board
until they land upon their rear.

Haha... this was such an outstanding and fun poem. The flow was amazing, the syllable scheme simply wonderful.
You both write so well, this collaborations is magnificent.
It's no secret that I'm a fan of writing collaborations myself, so I know how difficult it can be at times.
Such a lovely story though! It really brought a smile to my face.
I dream of someday writing a collaboration like this.
See you around, both of you.
Once more, outstanding work! (hits the library button)

You guys are way too cool..and BOTH are a smile waiting to happen..
this is so cute and clever..
and such a TRUE reflection of my moody muse and I's battles...
I think mine got a job working on a Cruise ship she stays gone so long
great write guys...nothing like a lil poetic chemsitry to get those muses going...
keep em coming.

who loves me with the innocence of a child.
