"settled dust"

the dust has finally settled
as i pick up the pieces of my heart
the raging storm is now over
time for my brand new start

only this time around
things are going to change once and for all
no longer am i going to allow these lies in my life
it's time to be who i am
to stand up and be tall

some people for some reason
take advantage of the kindness that i share
allowing me to think they care and love me
when in fact their actions show they don't care

not all people are this way
though it seems to becoming more and more true
i'm tired of the pain eating away at me
no longer do i want to feel blue

if you saw me on the street
you would think oh she's a happy girl
but most never get to know me
they know next to nothing about my world

i never let the hate change me
at least not on the inside
but after you've cried so many tears over the same thing
it becomes a big waste of time

now please do not get me wrong
i do have people who love me
everyday i thank God for them
they allow the chains from my heart to be freed

yes...today the dust has settled
as i search for the woman inside
she went away a long time ago
from the pain she had to hide

now she wants back out
to smile with the sun once again
i imagine that is why God has now
blessed me with you...my new special friend

you have brightened up my days
like a star that shines high above
everyday i am amazed
by your friendship and your love

i promise never to take it for granted
cherish it each and every single day
as together we both are finding ourselves
we'll help each other along the way

Well the entire poem touched me but these lines are so moving....

"yes...today the dust has settled
as i search for the woman inside
she went away a long time ago
from the pain she had to hide"

You will search and Amy, you will find her. I have lived this,
don't deny the woman inside, there's one in each of us and she's
usually screaming to get out, most of us ignore her, until one day
she's silenced. Let her write and live.

Amy:

Great poem. Glad your getting on with your life and that though the journey may not be easy your not all alone. You have someone else with you doing the same thing. Some people take advantage of people like us, the ones with big hearts, whom are too forgiving and wear our hearts on our sleeves. It's a shame some people do it but they do, and it hurts when it's someone you thought you could trust and cared about you. So I guess you sometimes never really know someone but I also think you need to take the chance to find out cause you never know it might turn out great like your new fellow traveler.

A, I can very much relate to this. And the "settled dust"..I love the way you wrote that, a perfect way to say it..
