Once upon a time
There was a little girl
Who dreamt of a knight
In shining armor
Who would one day
Come rescue her
From herself

One day she thought
She had found
Her dream come true
He came riding up
Beside her
On a brilliant
Pure white steed

She was taken aback
By his wit and charm
Easily falling under
His seductive spell
Becoming blind
To the world
Surrounding her

Some said his charms
Were of evil
But she didn’t listen
To their mocking tones
For in her heart
She just knew
He was honorable

She loved her knight
With all that she was
Giving herself wholly
To him alone
And promised
On their wedding day
To love him forevermore

Life was good to her
At various times
But it was never good
All of the time
There was always
Something getting
In their way

Until one day
The knight decided
The time had come
To abandon their life
Together to embark
On a life
All his own

Leaving her there
To pick up the pieces
That once comprised
Her beating heart
Only remnants of a love
That once burned bright
Singe her wounded soul

Wow....absolutely captivated and mesmerized me. For a minute, I could have sworn you were describing an occurrence in my life. This was just stunning and took my breath away, thank you!
Have a wonderful day, and millions of smiles sent your way!

Ok, Missy, why didn't you tell me you were going to go to free verse.

This is outstanding....it's moving along, carries the reader, no "soul, passion, dreams, as good as those words are, I felt it happening.

You told a story, that's poetry!

Come on girl, start WRITING.

Ah hah...you were peeking in my diary weren't you? Have we not all had a knight in shining armour get on his horse and ride off? I set traps now, that helps...I loved this one.

Beautiful poem, Jen..I too thought my knight was honorable, but found out that some knights have no honor. You described exactly how I felt when he walked away. Great read sweety!

Martha . . . Thank you, I think many out there can relate to this one unfortunately.

Kathleen . . . I just started writing and this is what came out. Thank you, and I always write. Sometimes they tell a story, sometimes they don't. Just depends!

Mysteria . . . You didn't see me peeking over your shoulder? Sometimes it's just better to let them go. Thanks!!

Kate . . . Very true, there are those who severly lack in the honor department. Glad you enjoyed this one.

Very good, we do have a tendency to think of people as being good and kind,,,when sometimes it is not true about them.

Red-uni,

I believe you have just stated one of life's most important lessons in your reply. You can know someone for years and still not really see them for their true selves. It is very sad that things like that happen in the world. I always try my best to see the good in those around me. Maybe it's a fault, but that's just how I am. Thank you!
