I've lost my precious little girl
She was here one minute and then gone
In her place a stranger did swril
This is the start of her happy song

Baby teeth going, beautiful smile filled in
A child's face being transformed to adulthood
Her eyes hold a look that say "I will win"
Even when she can't foresee all she would

Her chubby little body takes on a different form
And all ready isn't pleased with any of it
Smiles, frowns, slaming doors, different every morn
Looking in mirrors, love, hate, calm, throwing a fit

Her feelings are either up or down, no in-between
Laughing at herself then crying the next minute
Flitting around on happy feet then stamping &
feeling mean
Energy to burn or sleep all day, running or just sit

Her hair just so, washed 6 times in one day
"I washed it last week, its fine can't you see"
She is to old to cuddle yet sometimes wishes she may
No longer a child, knows everything, can't learn
from me

I can't let her know she will always be my baby
Grandma's little girl to watch become a woman
She has her dreams & they will all come true, maybe
Trials, lessons, win, lose, but trying is no sin

My daughter is 8 yrs old and I'm so not looking forward to that......and then again I am in a way. I'm sure you understand that. She will no doubt be a beautiful woman, as I can tell your daughter is!

A wonderful write!

dreamkeeper, this is the most difficult time in a females life. Your 8 year old will need you and not need you more than at any other time in her life. Scarry, right? I wish you luck. Thank you for your kind remarks.

This same thing seems to be happening to my daughter ... I didn't know it was a common trait
I guess there's hope

I had two daughters who managed to grow past eight. Now in their twenties, I wish they were eight again!! Really enjoyed this walk down memory's lane. Thanks. Kate

PrincessPout, our growing up will be 10! Such an old age to be no age. And I know what you mean by wanting that time back. Thanks for the answer. ME

This was precious...I wrote a poem called I think Parents vs Grandparents, and I did my dues on the first one, so I am enjoyed being re-hired as Gramma. They change so fast, you have to really love them and reinforce that you are there, but stay out of the way! That is the hard part. Well I have been there, so I know what you are going through, and it is different between your children and your grandchildren too, gets even more scary. Oh but I loved this poem, you sound like the kind of Mother and Grandmother every single child should have!

Mysteria, thank you so much. You have said ONLY the truth. I wonder how all my peers made it through my child-to-woman-years.I can still remember my brothers and their "acts of kindness". I may get even yet!!

Butterflies, my kid, I can't believe it is this hard when you were such a joy at that age! LOL Just had to say that. Love and hugs, Mom

M_E,

This was absolutely precious!! It is never easy, but hopefully she'll grow out of it like we all did!! Best of luck to you.

the tittle puls me in, as it have touched my heart allready, oh how I know these struggles so well....and being a part of them when they becomes older. unfortunally I lost my daughter to a stranger. And I wrote my first poem trying to deal with the pain.

Lone Wolf, oh, she will grow, I will get more gray hair and her mom will call often!

Kit McMallum, it seems like yesterday and the same thing happened with her mother, my Butterfly.

Charisma, thank God she is just growing and hasn't left us! I read your first poem and it is alot like my first one. Hugs to you

Thanks, all of you for reading and the great comments.
