~*~ A New Baby Is Coming ~*~

I just got off the telephone with my son and daughter-in-law.
They gave me news that has me smiling from ear to ear.
I'm so excited, all of my dreams for them are slowly coming true.
We're going to have another BABY, other bundle of love to hold so dear.

This little poem is to express what being a Grandparent truly means, and explain how it gives you a second chance,
T do all the things you couldn’t,or didn’t know how to do as a parent.
You do the best at the time, but over the years your skills advance.

When you are a parent no one gives you a book to raise a child by,
You do what your parents did for you, good or bad; it is all you know.
You want to show discipline, strength, love, and do all the right things,
So you wing it, doing things right and wrong, making mistakes as you go.

Sometimes children grow up to resent the way they were brought up,
Label their childhood dysfunctional, or whatever the term is today,
But these parents have to remember that we were just like them, doing the best we could with what we knew.
We learned to be a parent, by trail and error along the way.

Well your children are parents now they have the same hard job; they have to make the same decisions, just as we did, as their parents way back then.
Now they are the tyrants who say “no”, and hand the out punishments galore.
And so the same old cycle of parenting repeats itself, through generations, over and over again.

When you become a Grandparent, you throw away all the rules in the book!
Now is the chance to become all the things as a parent that you never could be.
You bend rules for bedtimes, hand out treats, do whatever makes them smile.
You become their hero, and the reward is
the greatest gift of all, it is the unconditional love you see!

How is that as a Grandparent you let the grand kids get away with murder?
Well it is simply because you can! - you can do anything now, that you really choose.
It’s wonderful being a Grandparent, and some day a parent’s turn will come,
The reason we are so lovable is – all the rules of parenting we now don’t ever use!

There is no “perfect parent”, mistakes are always going to be made.
And as each new child is born, more knowledge is always gained and used.
But grandparents simply wait in the wings, ready to spoil their new grandbaby,
The parents often weren’t treated this way, so they become a little confused.

The whole concept is simple really if you look at this from my viewpoint,
I did the very best at the time I could to raise a child to be a parent now,
And now I reap the benefits of my efforts, and get to enjoy the grandchildren.
Do I break all the rules, heck yes, this “perfect” Grandmother takes a bow!

*s* sorry kinda long again! he he - but excited! I am an only child and so was my son, so we are loving having another baby!

And so you should
bow take and partake of
you must have done some things right
after all your children have chosen the same

My congratulations upon your news.

Best to you and all of yours, always.

Compliments. As I miss my own departed grandparents. Knowing how incredibly special they were to me.

My thanks,
AT

What great news and what a wonderful way to celebrate it, by writing a poem to share with all of us. Thanks and congratulations.

Oh, can I relate to this. We just had a new grandbaby on January 4. I've already written a book of poems for her. I hope yours is as perfect as ours. Congratulations

Well! Look at all the proud Grandparents here will ya? I see we share one thing in common too, that pride and love that can never be suppressed. I was so excited I headed right for this old computer and shouted it out to the world. I too have done a book for the first grandchild, I guess I will get a chance to do another, as each one will have their own, as his my son. Thank you for listening, and cheering with me, you guys are the greaaaatist! x o
