We took the dog to the park
A chill, windy and sunny day
Willow needed to run
My daughter wanted to show
The dog’s skill with a Frisbee

The small shepherd’s grace
Unexcelled
I retreated to the cab
As they trotted off down a trail

I looked across the Brandywine valley
At the browns and grays
Of the far hillside
As a loan Falcon
Stopped at the tree before me
Holding a fierce grip on a branch
Before riding again on the wind

Then I spotted some larger bird
Hawk, Eagle – I know not
On the other side just above the tree line
Soaring on wings that appeared enormous
It floated on updrafts – dipped and rose
No ballerina ever displayed such grace

Some small wild rodent would soon be lunch
As nature’s life cycle repeated
With a death and renewed life
Yet all I could see
All I could feel
In the chill of truck
The beauty of nature
The belief in life
Returning –
To me
To those I love

The first duty of love is to listen.

The cycle of life through nature is awesome and you were there to feel the reality and the beauty of it all at the same time.....wonderful creatures those all seeing birds of prey......a perfect scene pictured here!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.
