He must have known this would be our last
visit and he walked and talked with me
as never before.
Little girl grown, I soaked up the history
of all the castles that each summer had
hosted my imagination.
My grandfather loved sunflowers and
to the window we both peeked, he
shared with me his ‘flower garden’.
The neighbors field brimming
with happy yellow faces produced
a solemn face instead of a smiling one
as he said
If they knew how much we were enjoying them
they would probably
cut them down

I hope he knows now that every
summer when they start to bloom
a stray one here and there, or
a whole field...each happy yellow face
gives me grandfather smiles.

As I wave to you from the Sunflower state, I also applaud, and say...."bravo"...

oh I love this one JB ...
there is nothing that can substitute the wisdom and gifts shared with grandparent..
that time spent as we grow helps define who we are...
you have captured this so perfectly in this
sincere sweet tribute.
very cool girlie..
ya did him proud

Some find subtlety in strangers
some find subtlety alone
Your eyes,you see everything
my eyes,I see its all together now
and I know.
