With gentle smile I bid you adieu
fair knight, late of my heart
You journey on alone it seems
I remain here, as you depart

The path you take will lead you
to lands far from my ken
if by chance, fate would choose
I hope we may meet again

Don’t ask me not to pine for you
my heart will heed not that plea
steeled against lost lover’s words
those remain in my memory

A glance over your shoulder
a wave of your hand at the end
a smile so sweet it breaks my heart
as you ride off around the bend.

And as the hours lengthen
I know you won’t be riding home
so I turn and walk away
once again,
all alone.

Fairy Tale-like, sad and romantic. Nice flow, story line, emotions runneth over!

Some day I shall grow in writing and learn to tell that big a tale with so little wording, wonderfully done, I so enjoyed that.

How many knights have I watched pass me by?
smiles and hugs, sharon... This is beautiful.

Thank you all!! It was my mood today I guess....so many Knights gone, my daze is all that's left.

Sharon...This poem is so ancient yet so new...for the dream of someone that stays is one that last through time. Beautifully done!

Sharon-- This is achingly sad, yet filled with a grace only you can write with. Wonderful writing my friend, what a treat it is to see your poetry around again!

The knight might have gone, but the muse surely returned! It's heart breaking.
But well written

Sharon:
You got your wish, I'm reading and replying somewhere other than Teen! I feel so out of place...
This piece was marvelous! The last stanza, and ending thought were excellent. Quite sad...
The mood and tone were outstanding. This is my first library entry from a non-teen forum.
It's nice to see your work, finally.

Thank you all for you kind words!!

and Sven, if not a Knight than what? A King? No..I'm not the 'regal' sort. I'm a commoner through and through...perhaps a traveling poet? Someone who will let me tag along and listen? No..I'm not the type to tag along after any man. So what is left?

Sharon, this speaks for me as well, so much. The feeling of loss, so poignant here. And so well expressed.
