This is in answer to PdV's Name That Tune Challenge.....it's an easy one to guess.

waiting

silence
the room is filled with
heavy thick absolute quiet
I close my eyes to listen
in darkness...

nothing...

nothing but
high pitched ear-ringing silence

I count the different rings
at least two very close
and one
no maybe two
split far apart...

dissonance...

they ring constantly in dissonant tones
never a major or minor chord
just miniature discordant drones
continuing on and on and on
without stopping
to take a breath...

listen...

near sleep
I clear my throat
for the company of sound
and wait...
for your knock
on the door

"Sound of Silence". Simon & Garfunkle.

??????????
"hello darkness my old friend
i've come to talk to you again
because a vision softly creeping
left its voice while i was sleeping
and the vision that is planted in my brain
stil remains
within the sound of silence"

I'm dreadful at naming tunes. Couldn't have even come close on this! But I loved the poem!!!

To hold tomorrow we must first be willing to let go of yesterday.

Okay, explain. Is the poem supposed to have the same rhythm as the song so it can be sung to the song's melody? Or is it supposed to describe what the song's about, regardless of rhythm, meter, etc.? Cuz I thought this might be "Feelings." When I first started reading your poem, I thought of "The Sounds of Silence" but I didn't think it fit the tune, so now I want clarification for this feeble feeling brain.

PdV's instructions:
"Write a poem that is really your favorite song (but don't use the lyrics in your poem!)."

I simply used my poem to describe the title...."Sound of Silence" and a little bit of the songs lyrics. PdV's instructions weren't explicit, so I took advantage of that.

Thanks for the comments and glad you enjoyed.
