Once where there was love so deep
Now lays only pieces of yesterday
Memories of better times replaced by bitter thoughts
Love dies and the void becomes filled with pain
Two lovers no longer growing by faith

So much was shared and learned
Each becoming the other as we traded our souls
Only to forget in the end that secure feeling
As we each went our own way searching
Seeking something that wasn’t there

Even so deep a love can drown
Too many times, under a baptism of tears
No attention is paid to that which we need
While looking in vain for that which we don’t
Pleasures of flesh replacing needs of the soul

All too late we realize the mistakes that we made
As we lie alone and sad, crying to ourselves
Wondering, in the dark, where we went wrong
Knowing that “forever and ever” is over
Even though we have the rest of our lives to live

Love one another-let God do the worrying,
Rodney

Some good solid basic thoughts here, Rodney, now give me the details, I mean be more specific.....what and why and who happened. Enjoyed.

"A baptism of tears" You have captured so much in this writing. This touched me deeply. Thank you for writing it.

To hold tomorrow we must first be willing to let go of yesterday.

Well Kathleen, the who is my estranged wife...the what is our decision to split up...and the why is because, although I still love her, I fear that we have hurt each other so much, so many times that it may be irrepairable...and thanks for the comments all.
