Turn my scarred wrists toward the sun
See where the shackles of Shame once hung
Bare my flesh and count the flaws
Where Guilt gnashed with sharpened claws

Remove the slippers from my hesitant feet
Where molten Regret scorched with blazing heat
Pull back my hair and with your fingers trace
Prints of palmed Remorse adorning my face

Do not consider this my tale of woe
Or call for pity and sadness to grow
Instead look to lessons learned and time gone by
Wings that formed with feathered Pain to fly

Each score that lies across my body and soul
Created the woman that stands before you..Whole
The past has made me who I am...I’ll not ask Why
To deny the facts would be weaving a tarnished Lie

I refuse to hide the reasons for who I’ve become
I’ll not cover them for the absolution of anyone
As I live on...day by day...the past will live within
But never will I allow it to excuse My every sin

So I ask you now to view the scars and imperfection
The fingerprints of my life...unmasked for inspection
Just as you wouldn’t shield your chilled body from the sun
Don’t Protect me from where I’ve been...or I become No One~

**My Thanks SS for the title help...Love you baby**

Oh, my kid, the scares and pains are not yours alone. You are my child and are from pain of long ago. I don't know why you are to carry this load by youself. Remember that you are NEVER alone and you are the strong one that got away. Live your life as you want and have others look to you for strength
Love you my kid, Mom

BDC,

Beautiful and strong words flowing from your precious pen tonight sweetie. I loved each and every word of this. All the things that have happened to us up until today, make us who we are today. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being yourself. You never have to apologize for that. I love seeing you re-emerge my butterfly friend. May you soar with the eagles on high. ***HUGS*** Take care you.

i didn't think it was possible for me
to love ya anymore--but you've just
proved me wrong....
this is so beautiful, and such a
revealing write at who you are...i'm
a firm believer in our experiences shape
who we are, and you are a wonderful
and beautiful person! that i do know...
--you shine in this, and i can see you
flying sweet butterfly. this is just so
lovely--even though it does have sorrow
and pain...it also has truth, justice,
and power emerging from behind this.
wonderful write. one of my favs of yours.

Where it not for fingerprints, there would be no identity! All that is past is past, and I see emergence to new found hope, love and freedom of hurt, and being lost...I see a beautiful butterfly that has finally emerged, about to take fligth with anticipation of wonder! I loved your poem and shall definitely read more (newby) he he

We are indeed what we are because of our past, our hearts, and what we are as individuals.. This is awesome.

cowboy send this message:

"yeah baby ... our butterfly has kicked off her shoes and now she runs barefoot across our hearts in a playful, free spirit of release.
Love it--I do, when you show your teeth, but instead of biting you just gently nibble your way thru(always did like waking to your nibbles anyway)
The power and the self realization of our past can become our strength, as so wonderfully put by you in this piece.
Now cowboy thinks that he will just kick back in the meadow and watch as our beautiful (and I do mean inside and out)butterfly soars even higher.
Love loving you and love listening to YOUR song that you're singing these days.
Watching you fly has even made me believe
that one day I will sprint again and we both know how special that is to me.
warmest of hugs, Mark Christopher

What beauty and strength that radiates from this. For this is how God sees us. He doesn't look at all that, He sees our efforts, lifts us up, and helps us carry on.

It is through this pain that we find joy. It is our past that makes our future.

~hugs~

Holly this was a remarkable poem, We all relate to this, knowing somehow we are each marked somehow by our past, but being marked and leaving things behind are different, you see the past serves as a reminder not as the presence, the presence is what makes us stronger and to move forward.

We all bare the scars
that make up the beaty of who we are.
Our pasts are part of what we endure
and who we become in our future...
It is now time for the butterfly
to take it's wings
and sore into tomorrow
eager for what life brings.

Your words are so beautiful BDC. This is
a fine example of what life can do to us
and what we can learn from it, and that no matter what we can always have "us" and as long as we are happy with "us" our lives can and do go on, and we are stronger for it. I'm sorry I ramble, this really took me away to another time and place and I am so glad that you posted it. Thank you dear BDC. *s*
*peace*

Enjoy life...this is NOT a dress rehearsal. *s*

This is outstanding. Brought tears to my eyes. I so much needed to read this today, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I needed this lesson.

To hold tomorrow we must first be willing to let go of yesterday.

Passionate and deep work Butterflies! I really like this.....

"I refuse to hide the reasons for who I’ve become
I’ll not cover them for the absolution of anyone"

Well said for sure... the honesty is compelling......great write!!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.
