Surrounded Yet Alone

She sat in silence, as if in solitude.
The others laughing and talking with ease.
Sitting in silence, she yearned to join in,
but she knew not what to say.

Secretly wishing time to go by,
retreating within herself,
was sad they liked her.
Yet, she felt alienated, and so alone.

The lonely one, afraid and shy,
to observe, and not join in,
for her world was limited.
It was a world of her own making.

Words she could not make come.
They never meant to shun her,
but captured up in the moment,
they never considered the quiet one.

This was beautiful. This really touched me as it is completely me when I was a little girl. Now I'm loud and obnoxious but once I was this!

WELL I MUST ALSO TELL U THAT I CAN RELATE TO THE FEALING. I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING THE POEMS HERE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS.I LOVE POETRY IS IS ONE OF MY GREATEST PASSIONS.I HAVE NEVER WROT ANYTHING UNTIL "MEAN MUG".
I WELCOME YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT IT.LIKE I SAID IT WAS MY FIRST.I HAVE ALSO BEEN LURKING IN THE SHADOWS BUT KNOW I AM GOING TO GIVE IT A TRY. I TOTALY FELT YPOUR POEM!!!!

The quiet ones...We are the listeners, and sometimes just listening instead of talking and interacting without holding back gets lonely. May our silence scream, my Friend. You have made more great points with your poetry. I enjoyed reading this.
