The candles flicker softly, and the fragrance
of rare blossoms fill the air...
The fireplace crackles gently...
A reminder that warm nights are not quite there...
She lies upon the big four-poster,
waiting for your hand upon the door...
Her body aches with need, her heart is beating,
faster than it’s done before...

She’s draped in sheerest silk,
of purple hues to match her longing and desire...
And in her deep green eyes, a light reflection
of her flame, or of the fire?
Her hair in chestnut strands are flowing freely,
past her shoulders to her waist...
She sighs as she anticipates your mouth,
your love, and how your body tastes...

She lies with eyes upon the door,
while dreaming of the love as yet to make...
And all the pleasures life can give
are there upon the threshold, free to take...
Her supple body quivers at the thought of
gentle kisses on her lips,
which spread apart remembering all the love
she’s taken from your fingertips...

Her passion mounts, and now she knows,
that she can’t lie in wait for you much longer...
There’s footsteps in the hall,
coming her way, and now they’re getting so much stronger...
When finally the doorknob turns,
and in her eyes, her man of dreams appears...
And just the sight of you ignites the fire,
even after all these years!

You drop your workday burdens on the chair,
and stoop to kiss her cheek hello...
The atmosphere she nourished, seems invisible,
you don’t see, or want to know...
You climb in bed, roll over,
you don’t see the tears as she blows out the lights,
the last thing that you tell her is just
“No, I have a headache...not tonight!”

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Sunny

As you blew out the lights, your heart was broken in two. Your words of pain and disappointment are written in every phrase. Nicely done.

Excellent descriptiveness through this.....and unfortionately so very true in life. Nice one, Sunnyone!

The imagery painted in this poem is very vivid if not a little scorching!!!The pain in the ending felt by all who read and feel.It reminds me of one I wrote called "Romantic Evening" Great writing Sunny!!

You've written the journey from anticipation to dejection very well! *S*
