Brilliance Stretches Past
Virginia Salter

brilliance of dawning
stretches past cloud cover
peels it away
to freshness of morn
fills air, solitude
sharpens contrast
of bright, dark

shadows deepen
offer shade
should warm come too quickly
too greatly

vibrant yellow-green
abuts emerald haven
of fern bed

magenta spots
peek through verdant leaves
aside snow alyssum as it
reaches out of café’d soil

a prism of color
enhanced by lustrous glistening
bounces off all in its wake
even I
distant from its window entry
sparkle
as bright echoes my weather side
and darkens my lee
