Who Gets All the Good Mail?

I rarely check my mail, the paper kind that is
That some guy, mine has really great legs…for a guy
Puts daily in a box on the side of my house.
I don’t even know who put that box there
I didn’t, I never would have
Because I never seem to get the good mail.
You know what I mean
I don’t get the mail that says. ‘You’ve Won!’
I’ve never gotten a tax refund.
It’s been years since I got a letter handwritten by a friend.
No gift subscriptions to magazines I love.
I don’t remember a ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood!’
I wonder who gets all the good mail?
But I checked my mail today
Only because someone reminded me
And because I suddenly felt bad for that guy
Trying to stuff it all in, day after day
I’m that codependent, I think about these things.
So I checked my mail
And it didn’t disappoint me
Bills and unsolicited correspondence from nameless PO boxes
Wrong names, some wrong addresses
Maybe I won’t feel so bad next time
The guy's got good legs
I’m going to help him build his biceps
Stuffing, stuffing…until I check the next time.

(I make no claim that this is good poetry. Ha! Only an attempt to write my way out of this funk. Please bear with me…I should be over it soon.)

Mine is a female, she doesn't even get out of her car to deliver the mail.
And when there's a car blocking the mailbox, she just keeps driving. So I don't think she has good legs. Talk about lazy!

A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes.

Poetry smoetry. Sometimes we have to write like this (though you're braver than me -- I'd never share it!). And it was fun to read. Cheer up.
