Painstakingly, she wove the yarn,
made the candles, and cleaned the fish.
Baby had scarlet fever, he
cried, she picked him up.
She then washed the clothes,
stopped because the baby cried.
Gently she rocked him to sleep.
Husband brought home deer,
meat to eat, she was thankful.
The baby cried, she lovingly
held him and walked the floor.
Fixed dinner for her family of seven,
an extra place for the preacher.
Baby cried, she sat, holding him close
to her breast, now he was too quiet.
She desperately looked for signs of life,
his breath had given way.
Third child she had lost.
Silently a tear fell, and a
prayer for strength she said.
Five children lived, and
for this she was grateful.
