I know the title is an oxymoron but Marsha challenged me

Here lies my good brother in law
Whose eyes nearly popped when he saw
His sister's surprise
A bake with gad flies
Though most of them stuck in his craw

A charming young lady lies here
To see her in state would give tear
Her beautiful face
Now shrouded in lace
And covered by smile is a leer

This is a sad tale of woe
A lover with nowhere to go
Lay by his bride
Held to her side
They buried him with her for show

There was fine gentleman, Adam
Who took pride in love for a madam,
But his lover's pox
Put him in a box
As for desserts, well! he had em.

There was an old lady who tried
Make an end to herself while she cried
When she succeeded
Her trials unheeded
Found out heaven's gate was denied

I've so often been told that the limerick is the easiest kind of poetry to write...but for me it's mostly too great a challenge. You have done them well and with cold humor, to boot. Of course, limericks are supposed to be humorous...so you've done a fine job.

Now, I can't help but think what the subjects think, if they know.

Kethry dear heart,

There once was a lassy called Lynne
Who was paticularly keen to sin
She tried it out twice
And found it so nice
That she couldn't wait to do it agin

Far too easy love, and did I say how much I love it. No? Well, that's because........ you've done it already.

Take care love as always
Slushy

I'll just have to think of something else

Take back the hope you gave,- I claim
Only a memory of the same

Thanks everyone, and you can see my dilemma, Epitaphs are supposed to be solemn, limericks are supposed to be fun. I guess you could call the mix deadly humor.

Should anything be "sacred" and saved from the Limerick? I don't think so. I think "A Limerick-A-Day" would be good for many of us.
I enjoyed these, Kethry.

Well I especially liked the truth in the last stanza. But this write makes me picture some strangely surrealistic tombstone with such humor put in place of an elegy. Wonderful write.
