Waiting as the Light Sifts

It is only me
and my old dusty guitar
waiting as the light sifts
across the window
and melts.

The golden curve of wood
slants into the sunlight
and is quiet
gathered in the shine.

Then I feel the snap of time
as I fall into someplace else
and touch the shadow
of the instrument
that lays across my lap.

My fingertips touch the place
and I turn my head
listening to a sound
from far away.

I can see her dark lashes
curve against her cheek
as she slowly closes her eyes
and sitting thus
she moves back and forth
her pearls rolling across
her silken bodice
drenched by the lacey light
and a shadowed guitar.

Her mouth is a soft bow
with lips slightly parted,
her breathing fills another room
where memory is singing
and when her green eyes open
they are filled with longing.

I see the grace of her raised hand
and experience the kiss there
as though it fell upon my own.
I’m surprised by the tenderness
that fills me,

and then I can feel the snap of time
release me
and I am only me
and my old dusty guitar
waiting as the light sifts
across the window
and melts.

Temptress--I'm glad you found this beautiful.

Karilea--You found a dust mote? You have such good eyes for such things as misplaced letters...thank you for being there!

Martie~
Listening, I hear through your thoughts ...

Looking, I see ...

'she moves back and forth
her pearls rolling across
her silken bodice'

Absolutely lovely imagery ....

This is exquisite. For me, it would be a baby grand piano!

seldom am I so moved -
rarely can mere words touch my soul
with these I'm taken -
to another time and place
only the feelings - thank god
are ones I know and savor
a simple thank you - isn't enough
it's all I have

Within that hollow of handpicked wood comes the comfort that so many enjoy yet fail to come up with the words to describe it. You have done that so well my friend and the way that those feelings flow through you are passed on to the reader quite vividly. For that I thank you and for your beautiful creation, I applaud you. I remain in awe of your talent to pen so vibrantly.

OMG Martie

waiting as the light sifts
across the window
and melts. ............

Loved the way you used these line to open your poem and close it.

I can see her dark lashes
curve against her cheek
as she slowly closes her eyes
and sitting thus
she moves back and forth
her pearls rolling across
her silken bodice
drenched by the lacey light
and a shadowed guitar.

Oh Martie, I see this clearly.

Her mouth is a soft bow
with lips slightly parted,
her breathing fills another room
where memory is singing
and when her green eyes open
they are filled with longing.

Goodness I am singing!

You are incredible Martie

Thanks for making me feel good

I may know the word
but not say it
I may know the truth
but not face it
I may hear a sound
a whisper sacred and profound
but turn my head
indiferent ....... Natalie Merchant

I'm not talented enough to play the guitar... but I understand well how music can transport us to another time and place and let memories dance across our hearts... this is so lovely, Martie!
