Between a laugh and a tear...

A Gift of Goodbye

Sitting there alone in the shadowed moonlight
Late into night, no one to hear the cries
Embracing words that reveals a poet's soul and dreams
Reminiscing lost love, a love born of angels and butterflies

'Twas carried forth by the sweetest of angels' touch
Words filled with love embedded in parchments textured page
Harsh truth revealed, that love alone wouldn't be enough
To fight these battles now found on life's great stage

And as those smoldering tears splash across the page
See yet another dream draining from that starlit sky
Imparted words of love, offered freely heart and soul
Now all that's left, the greatest gift! A gift of goodbye!

This last gift to be given, one last thought, a glimpse of love
Of two souls entwined, how once they danced in their dreams
Perhaps one day they'll reminisce and we'll see
Those angel's tears reflected in lunar beams

Eagle One,
when given like this goodbye is a gift, although I had never considered it to be so before.

Well, I can definitely relate to this one. Excellent expression in this piece and wonderful penning in both style and flow. The words still ringing in the ears but the release seeming so far away now. Great read all the way around.

No words can possibly tell you how much this poem means to me. As a poet, it's uncanny how sometimes another poet can write the very words you are living and not even know.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this....a gift for peace of mind.

My angel winged friend...you have opened the
eyes of those around you with your poetry
and shown that any selfless gift can be seen
as a gift when placed in the light of
friendship...even "goodbye"...Beautiful work
Eagle..your heart wears those wings quite

Goodbyes are always hard, and I think the hardest of all is when we have to say goodbye to love.

Though I'm not technically leaving I won't be around very much. So I wanted to thank you one and all for your comments, friendship, sharing and caring that you have given over this past year. It has meant more to me than you will ever know.

Take care and peace to all.

Beautifully written, my friend. Sometimes life surprises us with the direction it goes in. You just never know. This was a great write.
