“When I Was Teaching You”

I thought I knew true love, believing I’ve seen it once before,
but then one hurtful day,
there was a slow closing of the door…
As time passed I was all right, for my hurt was left behind,
but then I found you,
with an innocence, that was so divine…

Once I started to know you, I realized there was some confusion,
about my many feelings from the past,
of which I thought, were so certain…
My heart talks to me now, in ways I still haven’t figured out,
and it seems that all it takes is just a glance,
or seeing, your little devilish pout …

I wanted to teach you, all the ways about love’s special caring,
and everything that I knew about it,
like how true love is so appealing…
But you taught me about different things, like your many devotions,
and also how to express what I have hidden,
especially my deepest emotions…

Now I remember the softness of each night, tender, as they may be,
and when I hold you close I’m touched, with love’s words said to me..
I learned about love once again, through the things that we would do,
but most of all, I learned that love came to me,
all of the times….,
“When I Was Teaching You”…

Hi Bill,

This was beautiful and we seem to never quit learning about love no matter how many times we are blessed with it in our lives, very much enjoyed the poetry.

A beautiful ending to this. So very true. I have a little girl who's high functioning autistic and when she was diagnosed at age two I worked very hard with her, thinking I was teaching her, when in truth it was she teaching me. Beauty, patience, and a different perception of life. What a beautiful gift. I think you also recieved that gift, and expressed it beautifully, in this poem. What we learn from love is a gift never to be taken away.

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

nakdthoughts - your words are always touching to me. Thank you.

Sunnyone - always so gracious from that big warm heart of yours. Thanks Sunny.

Cerenity - yes, we never do quit, but dang it, I would love to understand it, if only for a little while. Glad you came by.

dreamkeeper - I do find it amazing, to think that one is teaching, but is actually becoming the student. Thank you very much for the words that you have written here. They certainly have touched me, and I do pray that I can and will be able to write poems with this kind of meaning.
