I Don't ... (version #1)
~*~
I don't think you know how much I needed you
With my words of caring came something new
I don't believe you saw desperation in my eyes
My desperation for a love in lonely night cries

I don’t think you know how many tears slid down
Behind the smiling mask covering my frown
I don’t believe you heard the wistfulness in my voice
As I silently prayed I would be someone’s choice.

I don't think you felt the breeze of silent caress
Sent to you in the hours of midnight duress
I don't believe you tasted the salt in my tears
Within the dreams of kisses hiding my fears

I don't think you smelled the flowers' sweet perfume
In bouquets bought daily to color my room.
I don't believe you heard the promise barely uttered
Hope cried out a window that must stay shuttered.

I don't feel as if you ever truly found the way
To see the beauty of two hearts at play
I don't believe you know what it is I have felt
As once again, memories begin to melt

I don't feel as though we ever stood a chance
For you've left no time in your life for romance
I don't believe you noticed or were ever touched
As I humbly tried to offer you so much.

I Don't ... (version #2)
~*~
I don't think you know how much I needed you
With my words of caring came something new
I don't believe you saw desperation in my eyes
My desperation for a love in lonely night cries

From the depths of my dreams, I heard a faint pleading
That beckoned to me - Was a lonely heart needing
The caring I’ve hidden and always denied?
I wake to silence, feel dissatisfied.

In the cries of howling winds and clouded nights
You turned from silent whispers of my plights
Harboring this heart given over to only you
Shattering memories as you sent them askew

Faltering footsteps find their way to a strange place
And my longing eyes gaze at last on the one face
I feel I belong with - But can I believe?
I fear the answer and hardly dare breathe.

With one big gasp and eyes closed in fear
I walk towards you - drying a lonely tear
With a trust in us and a hope in my dream
I take your hand and damn sorrow's stream

Your touch gives the key that frees an imprisoned heart
A plea bursts from me that we'll never be apart
I don't think you know how much I needed you
I'll spend my life making sure that you do.

SuthernGal & MarkB~
It doesn't surprise me at all that two of the loveliest people
it's been my pleasure to read -
would team up and write such a perfect piece.

*Hugs* to both of you ...
and congratulations on the birth of twins ! !
I know it was a labor of love !

emotional and expressive melding of two poets who write with very similar styles
and who obviously inspired each other to new heights.
These two bittersweet pieces offer both perspectives of love lost and love rediscovered.
I related to the emotions in these more than I have words for ...
excellent writing you two ...
you harmonize with rhyme divine ... I hope you'll do more conceiving *L*

"I don't think you know how much I needed you

I think that sums it all up poetically & perfectly
great write cowboy MC and Ruth-girlie

SEA: Your tears are the greatest compliment imaginable. *S* Thank you very much!

Bill: Thank you... those wishes are reciprocated, kind sir. *S*

PDV: Thank you so much! *S* Your "marvelous" is greatly appreciated!

Marge: ROFL... The poems were easy... the only "labor" involved was determining which parent would make the announcement. *G* Thank you!

Janet Marie: Thank you ma'am isn't nearly adequate... but thank you just the same! *S* Considering how much I enjoy Mark's work, I'm immensely flattered you find our styles similar. *S*

Martie: Thank you, kind lady... You're pretty dear yourself... and your words mean much to us! *S*

Balladeer: Why, no... (innocent look)... I don't recall any such warning! LOL. Thank you! *S*

Kethry: "Random" pretty much describes my writing usually... but I sure did enjoy this "tandem." *S* Thank you!

jellybeans: I sincerely hope you come to know version 2 well, dear friend... thank you very much!

And Mark... I don't have the words to thank you for such an incredible experience. For every NOPE I gave you, there's a whole host of corresponding THANK YOUs owed to you for not listening... *S* I enjoyed every word, cowboy!

And now, git yoreself in here and take the credit you richly deserve for these poems so dear to my heart... for they wouldn't have existed without your insistence. *S* (BTW... Since it will probably be Monday before I can post again, you're on diaper duty again! LOL)

SEA-your tears and your words are a gift of beauty themselves and I too thank you for sharing how much you relate to these two. Thanks much my friend.

Bill-Yeppers, she can telll 'em good can't she!! Thank you sir.

PdV-Thank you and that means alot coming from someone of your poetic caliber.

Marge-I went from adorable to lovely????? Now how did that happen?? LOL Thanks sweetie, she made it easy. You should have
seen all the looks on her face as she
cruched up trying to squeeze these lines out!!!!! LOL

JM-hey there girlie girl........where the heck is the double stick tape on these cloth
diapers????????? I don't get it??? Thanks so much sweetie and I know when you say you don't have words it is only because you find and relate and dive into the reads you give and really pour into the emotions of a poem. You always do and that is what makes you special and alot of these words could and do talk of how cowboy sees you ....... ya know that???? Of course you do. Thanks puddlepuff. Now can you hurry over here and show me how to get the cow to fill these bottles????

Martie-Thank you so much my special friend and fellow admirer of suthern's work. Your words mean the world to me as I know they do her. Hugs!!!

Balladeer-SSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH darn it....hey, it took alot of coaxing to convince her it was purely in the interest of poetic art. Dang don't spoil it my friend!!! Thank you sir. As I said, she made it easy to write and of course she makes them look mighty good with her words in them don't ya think?

Kethry-Don't tell Balladeer that the conception was emaculate. I kinda like him
thinkin' that it came about from alot of close contact. LOL Thank you much my friend. You honor us greatly.

jellybeans-Thanks there oh colorful one with a thousand voices!!!!! You may ditto the whomever you wish as long as you come with a smile that big. Thank you again very much.

zoe-Laugh all you want........your time is coming sooner than you think with the diapers and all. LOL

Voiceless-oh, believe them. Thank you for those wonderful words.

serenity-Thank you from the bottom of my heart there my friend. Now do you think that Balladeer would admit it? I am glad
you liked the twins and they do wink when
we say your name ya know.

OLIAS-MORE?????????????? Who is gonna support all of 'em if there is more? Thank you much. I am happy you enjoyed them.

snowpants-Hey there my friend. SO nice to see you. Thank you for those wonderful words ... now if you can help with the burpiing of these two then maybe you and I can sit a watch the game later on. I hear that the "Mets" might have learned how to use their bats this year. ROFL.

suthern-Well, MOM of poetic spit-up!!! How can I say thank you for allowing me this wonderful honor of writing with you. As you can see, you are one of the premier poets around here and everyone seems to know it but you so WAKE UP my dear and get to writing. It has been nothing but a pleasure and a great honor and I do thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This is so deeply inspired and beautiful! What a pleasent creation from the pen of two fine poets....this has a very ballad type of musical ring to it....loved the wonderful flow.........ethome

Ruth and Mark
You spurn the flow of poetic juices, you make tears flow behind a mask of contentment, you tear at heartstrings not yet plucked, you inspire a poet, a lover , a reader, a friend. Thank you for this wonderful and inspiring addition to our libraries

Toerag-With a Yee-haw in the mix of the reply we definitely have to thank ya kindly sir, but sad??? Where, when, someone has them gigglin!!!

Sunnyone-Why thank you sis. I know these twins mother will be quite happy that you stopped by to read and you already know I always love to see your face smiling back at me so all that is left is thank you very much for you kind and wonderful words.

ethome-Well, if anyone could hear music behind the screaming of two twins then it would have to be you and I thank you so much kind sir. You are a way cool cat!!!

Saxoness-Thank you for the *sappy sigh* and I am glad you loved them.

Liz-WOW.......thank you for all that for sure. It is hard to believe that our twins did all that but I am so very glad that they did and I thank you very much for sharing your enjoyment of these with us.

Suthern-Okay *MOM*, your up for changing the dirty diapers again. Cowboy has to go and rustle up the varmits on the range again. Be kind, be gentle, and don't forget to burp 'em!!

My two favorite stanzas:

Faltering footsteps find their way to a strange place
And my longing eyes gaze at last on the one face
I feel I belong with - But can I believe?
I fear the answer and hardly dare breathe.

With one big gasp and eyes closed in fear
I walk towards you - drying a lonely tear
With a trust in us and a hope in my dream
I take your hand and damn sorrow's stream
