What goes through your mind
As you're striking out in anger?
One look into the inferno
Raging in your eyes
As your teeth clench together
You become someone unknown
There is a deadness
an arctic set within
the features of your face
As you seem oblivious
to everything but your anger
and whom it's focused upon.

We have paid the price
taken the toll of blows.
Though bruises heal
the rest sits like glue
in the mind that
never deteriorates.
We've paid a high price
Paid with our minds
Paid with our bodies
Paid with our lives

You can sit feeling
justice wasn't done
The price you pay
is as a leaf
blown in the wind
How is it unjustified
When you pay with time
and money
And we pay with ourselves-
Our lives.

How can you complain
the price you pay is too high?
The restitution you pay
does it mend the tattered shirt
Fix the broken heart
Can it replenish the spirit
that was slowly wrung dry
Does it bring healing
to broken bones
or cover the multi colored bruising
or hide the scars of battle left behind

The hardest price you pay
The biggest blow you get
Is to your EGO
when you stand
in front of the judge
and say:

"guilty"

This is heartbreaking, Dovey... so many truths written into lines that simply sear as they share the fear and scars. Well done!

It's so sad that so many families face violence each day. Sad, but truthful poem. Well done.

Excellent description of anger. Sadly, too many people succumb to it nowadays.

Thank ya Ruth! I'm glad it came across. Hugs

Walker it is sad that anyone has to face violence in their life. Thank you for reading!

WK I'm really sorry to hear that. If you're friend is going through something violent I hope they can get out, or get help. Thanks!

Thank you Sharon. It is sad how many are affected by it. Even sadder that many cannot control their anger.

Thank you much NC!

Very well expressed, Rebecca. Nobody should have to live under such conditions. Help is there for those who need it, more so than ever before.

The same bitter medicine is much easier administered and forgotten than when swallowed. It's so sad for both. Learning constructive problem solving is usually blocked by heightened anger, then guilt adds fuel to the fire. Nice poem.

WhtDove - what an excellant writing about anger, and so true. One must live it though, I believe, to feel it.
