Night Unending

Unheard, my sighs to narrow night
as memory's touch trails, fingering
upon these shoulders, lunar white,
alone in sorrow's lingering.

For I have turned away from love,
denied with heart full flowering
as bloom of wistful foxesglove,
its velvet dewdrops showering.

I cannot bear what day has borne
when once the mist, in scattering,
reveals my failing, fragile form,
awakened, torn and tattering.

I pray swift sun will not arise,
that dark will stay descending.
Alone but for my memory's cries,
I plead for night unending.

Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau

Meadowmuse,

Your poetry is full of clutching imagery... you have left my mind with many foms and textures. for me, I envision a fragile white body groping in the darkness praying that the night will never end. I enjoyed the art and flow of your poem very much, Bob <><

Both gripping and fluid at once...emotional, and still in perfect construct. This was tight, claire! Into my library you go...AGAIN.

Awesome poet you...so, so glad you are back!

Oh my! Claire, this is so well expressed from the depths of sorrow. The imagery, the flow and the rhyme are just outstanding. You never cease to amaze me.

Take care,
Melissa~

Hi everyone. Thanks very much for the enthusiastic response to my poem. I'm trying to find more time for Passions, but have been submerged in several projects of late. This is still one of the friendliest spots I know of to share poetry online. (o:

Take care,
and keep writing!

but the night must surely end my friend
and bring with it the promise of the sun
for when the night has come to its end
then surely will the race be won. . .

wonderful Claire. . . it's so good to have you back here. . .

Elizabeth, thank you. Sometimes making the sadness at least "sound" beautiful feels right to me. Thanks for reading and letting me know you relate to my poem.

Walt, thanks. (yuh)

Martie, your words are gracious and so appreciated. Thank you.

Sven, a lovely poem reply. Thank you so much. It's good to be able to share poetry with everyone here again. (I like the smileyhearts!)

Mike, your couplet is enchanting... thank you, my friend.

James, turning from love is not easy, but sometimes seems necessary. The right decision? It's hard to say. Thank you for reading my poem.

I can remember wanting to sleep forever... but then nightmares came to visit and I hurried the dawn. *S* But I still hope to find a night unending, filled with joy. *S* Great work!
