A Soiled Napkin
Virginia Salter

crumbs lie upon marblesque table top
stemware on its side
magenta pool oozes toward its edge
slow, bitter-sweet drips
plunge to the floor. . .
in disbelief I sit
staring
all that is left of us
a silent
soiled napkin
lies awaiting the busboy’s lift
to the dust bin

Passion can be found in so many catagories of writing...the silence and the embaressment of reality lay on the shoulders like a ton....you portrayed this picture like such a true poet!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.
