Saying Goodbye

It seems like just yesterday
I was pregnant in the heat
when you smiled and quenched my thirst
with a friendship on the street

Our girls giggled together
and the boys grew up too fast
some dark moments took our breath
but the friendship was to last

Was through sorrows door I walked
while you listened to the rage
you were always there for me
a dear friend upon my stage

You stood beside me smiling
as with love I pledged my heart
you held my flowers trembling
you were there right from the start

We talked of all the feelings
and the ones we shared were rare
not hiding from the other
either laughter or despair

You always made me chuckle
honesty and that was that
the dear sister of my heart
I will miss you my friend Pat

(For my friend of many years...to be read at her funeral services)

Martie I am so sorry to read this, it's too sad. I know you would have been such a great friend and to have someone return that kind of friendship is something that you'll always remember...the sad beauty of this wonderful tribute bespeaks the depth of your always open heart...I wish you the best in this time of sadness...what a wonderful thing to have read at such a sad occasion........take care.....ethome

Martie, this is sadly beautiful, and sincere in its sorrow of remembrance...
I am so sorry for your loss, and for your pain - how you will miss her. Her specialness will live in your heart and in your poetry....

Martie,
The most loving tribute you can give your friend is a poem wriiten by yoou. This is so lovely and will ring in the hearts of her loved ones always.

I hope when I'm gone I get a word or two - to be the recipient of a poem such as this - seems way too much to expect! No doubt in my mind Pat is (I can't make myself use past tense) a most suoer lady.

Martie---This is the first poem of yours that I've read. It is so wonderful and so sad. I, too, am sorry for your loss. I am also glad though, that you have known a friendship like this.

It is obvious the gift of friendship and the depth of it she left with you is a very special one indeed. Very beautiful tribute my friend and I send you and her family all the prayers and hugs I can. God bless you and KNOW that he does no matter how you see it or feel it...it is there.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Martie. I remember you posting when you knew this goodbye was coming... it inspired me to post one about my childhood friend. My heart hurts for you... but how you honored her and your life together with this poem!
