On Winter Winds

Winter, with her arctic eyes
milky as a dead woman’s,
feeds on the lack of food,
blind to the pleas
of hungry faces.

Slicing through these brick walls,
how she huffs and puffs
evening finds her in lofty spirits,
stalactite grin
in a cavernous maw.

Her repeating chorus -
vacant vowels,
without consideration,
piercing peace.

I almost didn't come in here because our winter winds are giving us quite a chill factor today. I just didn't think I could handle any more.

Good job here of painting a chilling image of winter blows.

Brrrrrrr No vacant vowels in this one, Corinne, nice work.

Thank you all for your comments! Not a very nice picture of winter wind, is it? Think it reflected my mood at the moment.

The whole world is piercing peace one way or another...and I am a part of it just like all the rest of the helpless victims...that want to live love and be happy....this is a very good work of poetry!!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.
