This was written many years ago during one of those endless waits for one particular cat to drag in, wondering if I was wife or widow, wearing out the "Forever Autumn" cut on Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, and wailing along as Justin Hayward sang "but you're not here." It was never titled... so what better time to post it than when I could use the names of my own personal cheerleading squad in vain? LOL And yes, I know that courtesy would dictate I list the ladies first... But Mark even got on his knees... how could I resist? LOL

If I sit here quietly with my wine and rain
I'll find a way to think of you without pain.
I once believed that you would come again
Now I'm learning to live with your lies.

I gave my heart and future to the gentle man
Who told me "Do the very best that you can.
I'll be right here to lend a helping hand.
I'll love you forever; there'll be no goodbyes."

I longed to please you if I only could.
I set goals higher than I ever should.
I thought you'd be there as you said you would
But when I faltered, no one heard my cries.

So all the dreams begin to drift away
Now lonely nights turn into lonelier days
In shadowed memories love and laughter play.
I may be unhappy, at least I'm more wise.

Sunshine: Thank you! And hugs back atcha! *S*

Aimster: Thank you... I appreciate your kind words very much. *S*

jellybeans: Oh my heavens!! What have I done!!! Every guy in here is going to hate me now for depriving them of the chance to see those gorgeous gams of yours in a short frilly cheerleader's skirt!!! (I may have to tell them about HFG, just to protect myself. *G*)   Thank you, dear friend... but the wine doesn't help... it just lubricates those tear ducts a bit more. *S*

And JM: You snuck in on me there. *S* However, "oh I just LUUUUUV getting me way" makes me think UH-OHHHHH... what kind of nag have I unleashed now? LOL Thank you, sweet lady... but how am I supposed to write when I'm giggling over the image of a beggin cowboy, a butterfly, and a jellybean? LOL And I'm gonna be VERY quiet about "cowboy does his best work on his knees LOL"... I suspect Nan still has an eraser around here somewhere! LOL.

maybe there's no way to truly give without knowing the pain but in my heart I think love should bring joy, peace and happiness and that I wish for you - always.

Take care

RG: And you know I wish the same for you, dear Little Chick. *S* Lurking hugs are most appreciated. *S*

JamesMichael: Wellllll.... no. *G* I'm still muddling through mistakes and being unwise after many disappointments.

ethome: Thank you so much! How kind of you!

Well now........I have this feeling that you were just waiting to see get down on my knees before you posted and if that is what it took.......then why didn't you say so in the first place. I am glad you were VERY quiet about JM's comment and I sure as heck ain't gonna say anything about either. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this ole cowboy smile and if I have to beg to get you to post a poem each each and every time then I want the right to challenge you and to pen one with you...so count on it. I will leave the first verse here with you and you may use it to start the email bounces with your addition to it. AND NOPE isn't gonna cut it!!!! I will get you writin' one way or another.LOL

Now about your poem...
Very well written and you really show your heart and pain in this piece and you leave no doubt as to where the final chapter can leave someone after going through the pain and agony of a bad relationship. I think most of us can relate to some degree and it is a shame when one's spirit is taken away from them in such a cruel way. Lovely write from you and I am looking forward to not only reading more of your works but also to seeing what you do with the verse I leave you and remember....I earned this right by gettin on my knees in public so please indulge me on this one.

I don't think you know how much I needed you
With my words of caring came something new
I don't believe you saw desperation in my eyes
My desperation for a love in lonely night cries

Mark: Welllllll... as rewards go, it was certainly worth waiting for! *G* And I WOULD have asked before if I'd known you'd be so cooperative. LOL But hold up here jes a minute. *G* You said you wanted a poem and I obliged... what's with this you wanting/earning rights? LOL Pushy, pushy, pushy... *G* Thank you for your insightful comments on the poem... your kindness is greatly appreciated. *S*

jellybeans: But I could ignore you... you're skeered of my baseball bat! LOL. And, dear fellow one and only, I'm quite sure I could explain HFG (very innocent look not one bit chastened by your stern one *G*)

By the way... Mark, check your email. *G* But don't be thinking I'm always so easily browbeaten by cowboy charm. *G*
