Valentine Smiles
Virginia Salter

Valentine smiles
coated in lollipops
confectionery memories
to take home and stash away.

Little hidden treasure boxes
for up and coming hunks and foxes
skipping down the sidle walkses
on a springing day.

Cup cake crumbs
laced with frosting
candy kisses, hugs for tossing
nuts and mints and promises
rainbow up the day.

Dimpled lasses
dressed in ribbons
laddies acting
much like gibbons
teachers’ grins all sparkley
filled with glee.

That is Valentine’s,
its magic,
missing it would be too tragic
so let’s find love at play.

They are cute at that age aren't they. What a sweet write from you. Enjoyed the read much.

Thank you for the so pleasant Valentine read.

A joy like the candy you describe.

Compliments

Thanks, Mark! They are. One even gave me a hug as we passed on the sidewalk. Wow, did I need that! Yet, don't we all. I've heard one needs at least 4 hugs aday just to survive emotionally. I'm so far behind I should be in a home. Guess it really doesn't hold true when one knows the Lord. Thank God!

(sigh) Such sweet visions of past valentines day in your childhood! I wish I could have had sweet days like that, for I am now seventeen, and I've never had one valentine, one person even gave me a fake heart which said they wished I never lived, all so terrible memories. But I've got to keep my hopes up! Excellent poem, my friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light shine upon you this lovely Valentines Day!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah, why would anyone say such a thing to you? One reason I don't like to be subbing in a classroom on Valentine's Day is because invariably someone hurts someone's feelings. I never know what to say to make it feel better for them. This poem isn't really about memories, it was totally inspired by watching the kids go home after school and after the parties. Glad you liked it! Oh, I did have some good Valentine's Days when small and when grown. Surely your time is coming. Of course, you could be the giver for now.
