Facades

Beneath the brave facade of diligence
Anxiety and urgency abide.
With nerves rubbed raw by inner turbulence
That eats away the calm that's left inside.
With weakened legs he struggles to resist
The urge to simply rest and war no more.
But pangs of emptiness that must persist
Do slowly find him sagging to the floor.
Once more a beaten, broken, lonely man
Reflecting only unredeeming worth.
To live without a purpose, goal, or plan
And curse the very moment of his birth.

Facades may never change reality
Or shelter one from sin's finality.

A well constructed sonnet, David. Truth, wisdom and biting irony. Thanks for it.

This is so sad...but really really good. You express feelings of despair in a way that most of us can probably relate to.

Yes, facades will not change reality, I think they just keep one from being real in the eyes of others, and perhaps, even to themselves.

I just learned of a person whom I've knowf a long time, just now well, who has always been a vision of fine countenance, composure and confidence, having actually been living a pain reality. Her struggles were deep and likely lonely ones. Yes , it isn't necessary to drag everyone through our struggles with us, but maybe, just now and then a person should allow him/herself to be real and vulnerable, because in reality, we are vulnerable. Enjoyed reading your post.
