On This Rock
Virginia Salter

Rock of ages
thrown at me
heretics
would thwart my plea.

On the solid rock
I stand
my foundation’s
in His hand.

That rugged cross
all bloodied down
cleanses me
lets go my frown.

Amazing grace
is holding me
helps me hear
though dimly see

in the glass
though darkly I
till I reach
sweet bye and bye.

Just as I am
my steps move forth
it’s in His blood
I find my worth.

You can probably tell what I've done...strong together gospel song titles into a poem. There could be millions of ways to do this and one could use secular song titles, too. Kind of like "Whose Line..." on t.v. in the game 'song titles'. anyone game?

I think I'll pass on the challenge (I've passed on all but one... might as well not mar my record anymore! LOL) but this reminds me so much of the games I used to play with song titles in the hymnal in order to keep myself entertained during boring sermons that seemed to last forever... and how much trouble I'd get in when I was too successful and started giggling. *G*

Thanks for reading and the delightful response, Suthern! I thoroughly enjoyed considering your plight from the playful.

Oh dear, I didn't know anybody else did this. Now all grown up I'm ashamed to say as a teenager we (boyfriend)use to sit and go through the titles in the back of the hymnal and have a complete conversation without saying a word. Hopefully God understood teenage hormones and will forgive me this one little transgression.

My, my, did you find away to use gospel titles to say things you needed forgiveness for? It was hormones in control? Sounds amazing, you must have been divergent thinkers.
