Jeopardy

These soft and sloping hills,
an invitation to linger -
there, upon verdant carpets
to better observe clouds
as Lippizans rove
for morning meals,
such a harvest for the eye.

How I’ll miss these knolls,
when Angus no longer graze,
and the stray curious calf
does not become explorer,
when the falcon ceases to call -
high from his towering perch.

When bulldozers come
to plow up rocks and dirt,
they will also harrow guts
of unwitting inhabitants,
snakes, field mice and squirrels.

When there is nothing
but concrete and glass,
the only living things left
will hurry by,
insulated
from sky.

What a great title Corinne! I love the message in this wonderfully written piece. It brings to me the old style of writing about issues....the style that incoroprated beauty into the message to make it more outstanding...I really enjoyed this! !

It's refreshing to read the work of a poet who hones and obviously puts her heart and soul into a piece! Enjoyed thoroughly.

Corinne, you must be a child of the sixties, still with much value left.
