$ Superstar $

Hollywood lights flash your name
as you walk down the red carpet playing this superficial game,
you're a god, you're a hunk, you're a superstar,
you escaped from a broken-down town, you've come so far,
you're a talented spirit, but, your personality leaves much to desire,
blind, in search of attention, you throw your conscience into the fire,
teenage girls worship you with posters plastered all over their room,
you're so high, so free, yet, this glamour holds you within it's deceptive tomb,
you're the epitome of "sex, drugs and rock n' roll,"
indulging in your right to fame while the devil controls your soul,
Mr. high and mighty, you refuse to leave your hotel suite for less than fifty thousand a day,
you're close enough to royalty in their eyes, you always get your way,
you selfish puppet, all of this fortune does nothing for your character
as you head down a crooked avenue, adorned with gold chains, diamond cufflings and immoral fur,
Mr. cocky, you do your charity for the day - signing an autograph or two
you're better than they are you scowl, "how lucky they are to have met a somebody like you,"
when fame is concerned, love doesn't matter, you've had two-hundred groupie's in your bed
for false moments of thrills to calm the demons in your head,
you've seduced them all, put thunder in their screams
feeding the restless hunger - your jaded dreams,
you've conquered the world, take a bow, you're a king!
but, when life is stale, money, limosines and power don't mean a thing,
you stand proudly upon that pedestal, yet, emptiness still remains,
in haunting reminder, you hear the thin blood pulse through your veins,
you hold your Oscar with arrogance, proclaiming into the microphone that you're hear to stay!
but, fame is only written in ice, eventually the sun melts it away,
you ignore the golden rule, just because you know you can, it's justified, you're superstar, afterall!
the rise to popularity is fast, but, so is the fall,
alone, you sit, trying to calm the demons in your head,
you die forgotten, a has-been, stardom is dead

This deserves a very big WOW!!!!!!!! Tremendous write here, my friend, and even though I can't fathom what $50grand a night would feel like, (I wish), I can imagine that even that gets lonely and very old. You never would know who your friends really are.
Wonderful job here.....

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Melissa~
I think we've all known one or two of these !
But .... we keep on idolizing them ...
it's no wonder they start to idolize themselves.

*SuperStar* of a write.

Highly impressive. You capture the "fame" attitude so well. Wonderful. What a unique perspective on stardom.

The title reminded me of an old Carpenters' tune (yes, I know... I'm showing my age *G*) of the same name. It started "Long ago and oh so far away, I fell in love with you before the second show." So much is given unasked-for, making it harder to blame those who come to expect everything as their due... yet still we (the societal we, not the royal we *G*) end up hating the attitude we helped create. Excellent write!
