I'm not going to look back
That is why the smile on my face
Only looking ahead, that is a fact
A happy smile put firmly in place

I peeked behind and tears did slide
Down my cheeks for no reason at all
The dark shadows and no place to hide
I can't stand the pain of what I saw

Look ahead and feel the sun
A smile for all the world to see
So many wonderful things yet to be done
And lovely sensations waiting for me

Black clouds are following behind
The gloom there day and night
Such thoughts flying in my mind
Once again I want to take flight

Today a new day and I will be strong
Take control of my thoughts and deeds
I will only sing a happy song
And put away the worry beads

Oh why does the darkness creep in
Feeling like cold gray mist
Trying to cover my every sin
My heart like a hard fist

I know God isn't cruel
I have given this to me
So must begin by searching my soul
For all the shadows to flee

There are times when I really understand Lot's wife. *S* The past keeps such a hold on us... it's HARD to keep from looking back, even if the future looks bright... no matter how good our intentions! *S* This is great!

Speaking as a seasoned 'worrier'...this poem meant a lot to me to read! I love the way you helped me remind myself that my attitude has a lot to do with how things go in my little slice of the world. Thank you!!

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Sunshine, glad I'm not alone! Sometimes I think I'm just nuts.

suthern, I thought I was the only one with these feelings. If all is going well, I "wait-for-the-other-shoe-to-fall"! Right?

Sunnyone, you snuck in. Just look at the names of you who have answered this poem. None of you should have this problem! Boy, I am glad to see I am in good company anyway. Thanks y'all, ME

I hope to remember your words when I have need, I spend too much looking back at my own dark shadows. Thank you for this poem.

Mark, it is a good thing I don't wear a hat much because with your words of praise, my head just got 3 or 4 sizes bigger! And any time you have time, I can listen. Hugs, ME

Mom...you pen your heart with these finely
woven lines and in the process have touched
many...you see the magic of this place now
I think...the quiet comfort of being among
those that never judge...just understand and
hold onto your poetry while you climb another
rung of the ladder to the sunshine. Love you
my mom~
