Listening to every heart

Promise Keepers

~*~

we try, we do, when a promise is given
to make them last, long past our living
and the only real covenant I can see
is my promise to revere your memory

~*~

sweet babe of my cradle, I'll give you love
I'll give you joy, what wisdom I know of
I gave you breath, but I promise you this
you are your mother's heart, my sweet bliss

~*~

wonderful child of light, a spirit of elation
loving your laugh is no mere sensation
I gave you life, but I promise you this
you are your father's heart, my sweet bliss

~*~

I promise you that as a woman fully grown
you will have reasons to be on your own
you will leave soon, but I promise you this,
you will find a home in your first true kiss

~*~

I promise you that as a man of strength
you will have reason to go great lengths
and I promise you, one day you will find
a loving reason to change your mind

~*~

when the woman then sees the man
promises unfold in love, sweet and pure
she smiles at him, and he is quite sure
that promises lie in sweet demure

~*~

"I would take you in promise, for my wife"
"and I promise to you, the rest of my life"
and they pledge, a commitment of two
as an engagement is meant to do

~*~

promises kept can keep a promise intact
giving of word means not looking back
it is when a promise starts to fail
that the sun and moon will begin to pale

~*~

so go forth in promise, in faith and in hope
for in these sweet words are found ways to cope
then keep your promises, as they are a treasure
for God sees them as a gift of measure

~*~

There are many things we can give away to make people happy but promises are nicest when we keep them....very nice, sunshine..

Sunshine, I must agree with Balladeer...this is VERY nice. Soft and sentimental. Thank you for it.

.... yes, promises are important to keep...... sometimes promises are made too lightly and sometimes words spoken are misconstrued as promises when they aren't meant to be..... life is hard, y'know? goodnight, sweet poet lady..... email me tomorrow?

I KNOW you are a promise keeper ~S~ - this flows as beautifully as the heart from which it came

That almost sounded like a lullaby, nice job!
