Even the illusion is not as convincing
as it was when I was 19 had my first drink
got drunk, fell down, woke up, with every ping a gong
it was the truest escape then, reality?
miles away my friend, but then reality was good
no money, no job, no worries.
These days I stumble in thinking -
no matter how drunk I get reality shrouds
the illusion can't break through the clouds
don't even wake up with a banging head
just early,and promising to quit again.

Mendy - On this Monday morning - a day that I begin working with a group of teenage girls in an alcoholism rehab facility, this is a truly apt poem to begin my day... Very apt indeed...Nicely done..

Very honest...very accurate descriptions. If I didn't hate the saying, 'been there, done that...'; I'ld use it here. Don't wake up with a banging head, anymore? Seems a hobby of youth has become a career choice. Promising to quit? Promising who? Thanks for sharing this. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
