Time's footsteps tread across a furrowed brow.
Whilst decades come and go like fleeting glance,
Traced passages enroute from then 'til now
Bare memories of love's bygone romance.

Whence paths askew enjoin one fateful day,
Remembrances of youth's embodied lust,
In testament that love can find its way
To meld as one with wisdom sharing trust.

Tomorrow's roads yield turns as yet unseen.
Uncommon ways ensuing years partake;
Lest not abide on that which might have been,
Embrace the bond of love for future's sake.

"A time for everything," spake endlessly;
Yet hearts which truly love wend timelessly.

With Love for my Secret Valentine...

Waft every crest upon your destined sea.
Embrace the Wave of Serendipity,
Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy
Refurl with sail for all eternity.

The first two lines floored me with the visuals...and? I loved the graphic with the poem...a study in perspective that lent to the poem quite well. The combo of challenges was great...and the thought? OH my...I will try to find some comfort in that. Tell ya what? let me know how it all turns out. But I am like the son...in Cat's Stevens "Father and Son"... and I paraphrase here:

it's hard to be patient when you've found something going on...

lovely work, Mizz Nan!

nan.... .you RULE!!! this is awesome... dammit! timing is everything, no doubt, and this is right on time, girl!.... 2 challenges in one? geeeeeez....... does that make you a 2timer? hehe.... ok, i told you before it was late but now it's even LATER and i knew that if i responded to this tonight before when it was late, i'd be writing gibberish, but now it's even later and so i ramble just to tell you that this poem ROCKS! and yes, timing is everything so i go from gibberish to rambling as you write a classic.... *sigh*

2 challenges met AND a SONNET??!!??
well...no one need ask how ...
she is, after all ... THE teacher
and this just schooled us all.
a lesson in cadence, vocabulary ...
and the REASON to pay attention in class.
very cool Nan ... indeed

Where the touch of the lover ends
And the soul of the friend begins
There's a need to be separate and a need to be one
And a struggle neither wins

A most humble thank you to all...

serenity - Thankya - I understand your philosophy on patience - It can be difficult - but lack of it can sometimes destroy what's really important in life...

Elizabeth - Smiles... Mucho Danke..

PdV - Thanks muchly - This secret valentine and I aren't likely to ever be "together" after thirty-some years - We're both just happy to know in our hearts that loving can be forever...

Denise - Thanks - Just keeping you on your poetic toes, my fellow sonneteer...

Marge - So glad to see ya.. Glad you enjoyed, my friend..

Doreen - I've thought seriously about two-timing - but it's hard to do unless you can be a one-timer first... Everything is in the timing, you know... Thanks for making me write this one, Doreen...

Deer - Humble bow, my wonderful friend...

Janet Marie - Thanks muchly - In reality, though - I'm basically lazy and I had to meet so many challenges that I decided to cheat...

So....was this the sonnet you were trying to fit into your head without aid of some oil and a shoehorn, or a phrenologist's hammer? Nanners, you succeeded....this one is simply amazing. I know our structural techniques differ, but you RULE GYRL!!!!

Nancy - how many times can I say the same thing, that you are the master.  I love this graphic of the dock, my word does it touch me.  Perhaps reminds me of that special place that I wrote about.  Your writings are special Nan, keep them coming.

Ali - Yep - This would be the one... Those brain farts are phrenomenal things, aren't they?...

Bill - I'm smiling - Round & Round & Round we go... Where we'll stop.... LOL...

Sunshine - LOL... If you did that, it might affect your work - I'd never want to do that... Yours is much too good in its own right...

Corinne - Back atcha...

RG - Thankya, my friend...
