Today

I pulled out all the old pictures today
Sat in front of an open window
Dared the winter to warm my heart
And I looked at them…one by one
I tried to understand
But it was never anything I saw
Never anything you did or said
It was only that you loved me.
I gathered up all the old poems today
Sat beside the fireplace
Dared the embers to cool my pain
And I read them…one by one
I tried to understand
But it was never anything I said
Never anything you saw or did
It was only that you loved me.
I dug up all the old memories today
Sat there on our bed
Dared it somehow to comfort me
And I remembered them…one by one
I tried to understand
But it was never anything I did
Never anything you saw or said
It was only that you loved me.
I placed all the moments together today
Sat here in my chair
Dared peace to brave my broken heart
And then l let them go…one by one
I didn’t try to understand
It was nothing that I said or did
It was nothing that you saw
It was only that you loved me
And you don’t love me anymore.

JLR, The memories of love gone are the worse. And asking why and where are worse yet.  You will mend and life will go on. Hope you like it here at Passions, like your poem.  Hugs,  ME

Welcome to Passions.  You should fit right in here.    Yes, it's hard to escape those memories and those questions.  It does get better with time, but it never goes away completely.  I do like the way you wrote it out.  You structured it very nicely, too.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

I do like the various dares you throw at and to the apparent vagaries of life in this.
I was struck by those most of all.

Not a surprise as I often am struck when i dare life to do such.

Well done.

most sad...

welcome to passions...and thanks for the read.

Awww, so sad but I know we all can relate. You found the words better than I ever could. Very well written, my friend.

I believe that this time of year brings a lot of us to going through the memories of past loves and trying to figure out where the magic went.  Exceptional first post and I will be looking forward to more from you. Welcome to Passions BTW......You will love it here I am sure.

Thanks everyone for reading and responding.  I was gratefully surprised at the reception.  I didn't say thanks before now...'cause I didn't want to send this back to the top.  But I felt it nonetheless.

this evening, he said to me he lost me a year or so ago...to poetry...I printed out 50 pages of poems to show him tomorrow morning that I was never lost to him...he threw me aside...glancing overyour poem again reminded me how much alike we have been lately...

Thanks for reading again, Wynter. I wish I had let go as completely as those words expressed. I have walked away...but my heart doesn't live in my body anymore. It will be a long time I imagine before I will be brave enough to invite it back.

JLR, You write so beautifully and with such honesty. Baring your soul to the embers is not an easy task. Hang around for a while, you'll be amazed at how much this place helps you heal. Take care.

I can't believe this is still around...but thank you all! When I remember the intensity of the pain the day I wrote it and compare that to it's present level...I am most grateful for the healing I have found here. Thank you all very much for reading.
