They say she is silent
But I hear her soft song
Against my skin as I stand
And watch her flow beneath my feet

Ever changing in her moods
Quiet and deep one moment
Wicked and wild the next
Like a woman waiting to be tamed

Through her seasons we travel
On a slow motion ride
Wonderous in her beauty
Dangerous in her guise

The river...this river
My lady my love
Together we drift endlessly
On the currents of her desire

This river...my river
My destiny lies with hers
To live to love to die
On this river that is my life

For my friend David...a riverboat captain

Paula~
The sheer magnitude of the river is reflected in this piece ...
A wonderful read.

How moving, and you know in the old west they had a saying "ride the river" with me....I loved this, Paula

and the sun drips honey."

Beautiful description of the river Paula I really liked this very much and I bet the captain did too.....great writing!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.
