Torn Valentine

Melodies of lovers 'neath satin sheets,
carriage rides, candlelight and cinnamon sweets,
all this and more, for this celebrated holiday,
yes, I'm talkin' 'bout Valentine's Day!
~*~
I have always believed that Cupid was by my side
leading me in the right direction as my loyal guide,
but, alas, to my shock and surprise, this has never been true,
I thought that he was my friend, but, instead he faded my red heart to blue
~*~
It seems as though my skepticism and tears
comes from all those wasted years
searching and waiting for my one true love,
only to fight a losing battle, cursed from above
~*~
I'm always the understudy in beauty's play
with no midnight strolls on the beach, no romance, not even a simple bouquet,
oh Cupid, you can be so cruel,
I end up playing the part of the fool
~*~
You never send good luck my way
especially when needed most on this lover's holiday,
no chocolates, no dancing, no long stem roses,
it never fails, the door to love always closes
~*~
When will my dream come true?
Oh, kindred spirit, where are you?
You must unlock my heart, I need to be set free,
I beg of you, Cupid, please give him the key!
~*~
Won't you help me, Cupid, to escape this sorrow?
You missed yet again, piercing my heart with your arrow,
that's it! I'm pleading my case to a higher power,
God, create a soulmate to shelter me from this thunder shower!
~*~
I long for my prince charming to bring my glass shoe,
yet, he's no where in sight, a Cinderella without her prince? Can this be true?
It's so unfair, Cupid, other hearts are safe in the arms of their soulmate,
here's my gift to you, my torn Valentine, for, I have no faith in fate
~*~
So, here, take my heart, drown it in the sea,
obviously my knight wants no part of me,
alone, as usual, no home for my soul,
enough already, Cupid! Your story is never quite whole
~*~
Turquoise eyes weep for this torn Valentine,
deprived of "I Love You" and "Will You Be Mine?"
This golden fairy tale still has a blank page,
as I stand with empty arms upon love's stage
~*~
And so, it goes, always a bride's maid, never a bride,
to the world I smile, loneliness, I hide,
I've kissed a few frogs and too many swines,
this job is meaningless to my heart, it now resigns!
~*~
My decision is final, I have given up!
Why should I hope when I'm destined to drink from the loser's cup,
I seem to be the troll where fairies dance and angels play,
my heart dies a little more each Valentine's Day

Talk about sad! But I see that it was meant that way. I know how you feel to have no one around Valentine's day. I hear however that once we STOP looking and are comfortable being by ourselves, that's when love falls right in our laps. Good luck with everything, hope you find happiness soon.
Great Great Great poem by the way. You express yourself so well.
Keep writing!
Your friendly poet, Pixydust

Ah, Melissa - this is a dilly!  A romp through agony, if there is such a thing...I adore your descriptions - I have felt that way too (long, too long ago *g*)...
But I sense tongue-in-cheek....too many high spirits here to make it depressing!
A great read!

Excellent writing!  So many emotions, wonderful descriptiveness......and yes, I know those swines!
You've poured forth your emotion wonderfully.

A hug from me too!

Melissa...only you could write a "blue Valentine"
you've got some really cool lines and turn of phrases in this...
and you've used a lot of the cliches' and put a new twist on them too
well done poetess ...

Heaven bound on wings of love,
there's so much that you can rise above.
I surrender heart and soul,
sacrificed to a higher goal.

Melissa,
This is a real beauty.  Your writing reflects so much I what I feel.  And I hope one of these Valentine's Days, Cupid won't miss...

well, this was very sad, heartwrenching with snipits of humor to lessen the blow of your words. I used to feel this way, and I hope that next year will bring your soulmate to you

Yep, know what you mean.  But I had my love and now seem destined to holding its ever fading memory.

There must be something else for me to do, but you're young enough to still hope so please do, in Him.

I would also like to echo laryalee, that is a great reply, especially.
