The Weight Of Tears

A single candle
paints shadows around the bathroom
I don't even see, because
my eyes are closed
fingers trailing through the water
feeling the dreams
slipping through my fingers
so easily

"I miss Daddy", I've heard
so many times tonight
And I can't voice all the emotions
that flood my mind
Can only swallow them back
as I hear myself coaxing their feelings out
Comforting them
Reassuring them
one more time
that we're going to be okay

And tonight
as I lay exhausted in this bath
I fear the dreams could slip through my fingers
as easily as this water trails from my fingertips
leaving only the beginnings of
my children's tears

To capture and live a moment is truly living

Yes......I understand every word of this extremely poignant poem.....the message is so familiar, and will be to any single parent. It's a hard subject to cover, but you did it well, and I shared those feelings with you as I read. Wonderful writing!

So sadly, nicely done - yet not in complete despair, for strength is hidden there...it will be okay!
