Morning

Intoxication's flame no longer flies,
I see the world through drips of dulling wax.
These brittle blows of winter's sickly sighs
warm not the blade of grief's descending axe.

No more in evening's arms shall I recite
or stir mere words into companion verse,
for words cannot replace a bathing light.
I crave the draping dark I used to curse.

For through the dismal rolling of the earth
no love in morning's moment shares my bed.
And stilled, the will for breath and beauty's birth,
I rise but know that I am waking, dead

~ Claire

Claire..
This is such a powerfully gripping piece, and I do hope that you are not the focus in it. But if you are, my thoughts are with you, and this one touched me like no other.
I wish you the best, my friend.

~~~ enjoy yourself ~~~
My goodness! Your turn of a phrase is excellent. This is sadly elegant.
Claire ,
A haunting image . For you ,these lines .
Know that you are much loved if not in flesh
but in the spirit that you have portrayed
for those who with your words you have en-meshed
shall hold you close until the end of days
Bittersweet or not, Claire - Your work is always wonderfully crafted.. Enjoyed the read muchly, my friend..
Waft every crest upon your destined sea.
Embrace the Wave of Serendipity,
Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy
Refurl with sail for all eternity.
Hi, everyone.  Thank you ALL so much for your kind words, responses, e'mails. Isn't it wonderful, taking thoughts and feelings and experiences and images and turning them all into verse? It is a cleansing, rejuvinating, healing activity, I believe, if we allow it to be. Admittedly much of the motivation for this piece is borne of personal circumstance and emotion, but please do not fret, I am fine. You know...just writing poetry. (o:
Doc, your verse is lovely and so sweet. A special thank you, to you.
Loneliness some claim is down to luck,
A die once cast is never set in stone
And judging each reply, each sweet remark
A heart so true shall never be alone.
Thanks for the chance to read and reply.
Oh, Claire, this is exquisitely sorrowful.  The last verse just moved me, I relate all too well.  You truly have a gift   Into the library this goes
Take care,
Poeminister, Craig, Melissa, Chelsea, thank you for reading and letting me know you enjoyed this poem.
Craig, thanks for your verse. It's awfully sweet, but I am fine, I promise.  This is simply a poem. (o:
I was pretty sure you were ok, I just thought I’d show you that my writing hasn’t improved.
Gripping evidence of turning one's life into words that may be felt by all who read.  Not many can capture the feeling properly but I don't know of anyone that does it with the mastery of the language better than you.  Very nicely penned and expressed as always.
